Updating the same information in a large Shopify catalog can quickly turn into hours of repetitive work.
Editing products one by one takes time, while relying on another spreadsheet import can lead to outdated versions, duplicated work, and mapping issues.
In this playbook, you’ll find the products that need the same change, update them together in Plytix, and sync the new information directly to Shopify.
It’s a simpler, more reliable way to keep your product content accurate without repeating the same edit or managing another import.
What you’ll learn
By the end of this playbook, you’ll know how to find a specific group of products, update shared information in bulk, and send those changes to Shopify.
This workflow helps you:
- Stop updating products one by one
Apply the edit across multiple products at once instead of doing it manually in Shopify or copy pasting changes in another spreadsheet.
- Work from one source of truth
Manage updates directly in Plytix, so your team always knows where the latest version is.
- Publish product changes faster
Review your changes in one place, then sync them directly to Shopify, knowing the right products and fields have been updated.
Step-by-step guide
- Find the products you want to update
In your products page, use filters to narrow down the products that need the same change.
Filter by product type, category, status, or any other relevant attribute. You can also select your full catalog when the update applies to every product. - Select the fields you want to change
Choose the attribute you want to update. You can add a new value, clear the content, or even use the “find and replace” option to change a specific value in your field. - Update products in bulk
Enter the new value and apply it to all selected products.
Plytix will update the chosen field, so you don’t need to copy and paste the same information into each product. - Process your Shopify channel
Once the updates are saved, head to Channels and open your Shopify channel.
Click Process now to send the latest product information to Shopify.
Best practices and resources
Now that you know how to apply a change across multiple products, here are a few ways to make future bulk updates faster and easier.
Click on any of the tips below for a step-by-step guide.
- Use find and replace
Replace repeated words or values across a group of products without manually editing each one.
This is useful for correcting specific text, updating terminology, or replacing an outdated value in your catalog.
- Create unique views for different workflows
Set up product views with the fields, filters, and sorting needed for different teams or tasks.
For example, you can create one view for Shopify updates, another for upcoming launches, and another for products that need pricing or image changes.
- Automatically update variants with shared information
Set up automatic inheritance, so when you make updates to a shared field on a parent product, the same change will apply to its variants.
This is useful for information like brand, description, material, or care instructions, while variant-specific details such as size, color, and SKU can remain unique.
FAQs
The update is only sent to your store if the field is mapped in your Shopify channel and your channel is processed.
If the update is still missing, check that the edited Plytix attribute is mapped to the correct Shopify field and that the updated products are included in the channel.
