Automatically link images to products

Matching product images to the right SKUs manually can take hours, especially when your assets are stored in different places.

In this playbook, you’ll learn how to upload your assets to Plytix and create an autolinking rule that matches images to the right products.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this playbook, you’ll know how to bring product assets into Plytix and automatically match them to products using asset filenames.

This workflow helps you:

  • Get your account up and running faster
Bring your assets into Plytix and connect them to products so your product content is centralized from the start.
  • Avoid missing or mismatched images
The autolinking rule helps you match assets to products more consistently, so you’re less likely to skip an image or link it to the wrong SKU.
  • Speed up product launches
Prepare products with the right images automatically so your team can launch channels and updates faster.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Upload your assets to Plytix
Drop your product images into the asset uploader to add them to your account.
  2. Create a media attribute
Choose where those assets should live on your products by creating or selecting an existing media attribute, like “Packshot Images,” for example.
  3. Select assets
Select the assets you want to link and choose the option to match by asset name.
  4. Set up the autolink rule
Choose the product attribute Plytix should use for the match, such as the product SKU, and define the filename to specify where this information is.  Then, click “link.” Check out this Help Center guide for more details on how to set up your autolink rule.

Best practices and resources

Now that your assets are linked, these tips will help you keep your media organized and ready for channels as your catalog grows.

Click on any of the tips below for a step-by-step guide.

  • Use categories for easier searches

Assign categories to your assets so your team can quickly find the right files by type, campaign, or channel. This makes it easier to manage large asset libraries so you can find related files faster.

  • Create custom lists

Build asset lists to group files you use often, such as launch images, retailer assets, seasonal campaign content, or product-specific collections. You can create smart lists using filters or manually add assets.

  • Autoformat assets for each channel

Use transformations in your channel to resize, rename, and change image formats to match requirements without changing the original file stored in Plytix.

FAQs

What is an autolinking rule in Plytix?
Autolinking is a way to automatically connect assets to products by matching information in the asset name to a product attribute, such as SKU. This helps you link many assets at once without manually assigning each file.
Do my asset names need to include the SKU for the autolinking to work?
Your filenames don't need to have the product SKU specifically, but they need to include a value Plytix can match to a product attribute. For many teams, that value is the SKU, but it could be another unique product identifier or differentiator.
What happens if my asset names are not consistent?
If filenames don't follow a clear structure, some assets may not match correctly when linking them to products by asset name. We recommend updating the filenames before uploading them to Plytix or working with our team to standardize naming conventions, so future autolinking is easier.
Can I link more than one asset to the same product?
Yes, you can link multiple assets to the same product, such as main images, alternate angles, lifestyle images, videos, or documents. See all the different file types Plytix supports.
Can I control the file order when autolinking?
Yes, you can define the file order when setting up your autolink rule. Just turn on the toggle "Asset names contain order numbers" and choose the section of the filename that includes the order number.
