Find content gaps before products go live

Reviewing products one by one to find missing content takes time, and it’s still easy for something to slip through. That can leave customers finding missing images, descriptions, pricing, or other important details before you do.

In this playbook, you’ll define what a complete product looks like, review your completeness scores, and quickly find the products that still need attention so your published content is always accurate and complete.

It’s a simple way to spot missing content without reviewing every product one by one.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this playbook, you’ll know how to set up a completeness score in Plytix and use it to find products that are missing information before they're published to Shopify.

This workflow helps you:

  • Stop guessing what’s missing
See exactly which products need more information without going through each one manually.
  • Catch content gaps earlier
Find missing fields before they delay a launch or create incomplete product listings in Shopify.
  • Know your content is always accurate
Use a clear completeness score to check product readiness before sending content to your store, so only complete products are published.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Create a completeness attribute
Start by creating a completeness attribute that defines the information a product needs before it is ready.
You might include fields such as the product title, description, images, price, category, or any other information required for your products in Shopify.
For an overview of what fields you’ll need for Shopify, check out our mapping guide.
  2. Review your completeness scores
Once the attribute is set up, add the completeness score to your Product Overview. Each product will receive a percentage based on how many of the required fields have been completed.
  3. Find products that need attention
Use filters to identify products with low completeness scores. This automatically gives you a list of products that still need work, so you don’t need to review your entire catalog.
  4. Save the view for your team
Save the filtered view so you and your team can return to the same list whenever you need it.
When you add missing information, the completeness score will update automatically.

Best practices and resources

Now that you can see what content is missing, here are a few ways to make completeness tracking easier to manage as your catalog grows.

Click on any of the tips below for a step-by-step guide.

  • Organize information into attribute groups

Group related attributes by content type, team, or market so they’re easier to find when building your completeness rules.

  • Start with the fields that matter most

Focus your completeness score on the information a product really needs before it goes live, such as titles, descriptions, images, pricing, and required Shopify fields.

Including too many optional attributes can make it harder to see how ready a product really is if all the information isn't needed.

  • Create unique views for your team

Set up different views with the fields, filters, and sorting each team or workflow needs.

For example, you can create one view for incomplete Shopify products, another for upcoming launches, and another for products that need image or pricing updates.

FAQs

What is a completeness attribute?
A completeness attribute lets you define which fields are required for products to be considered ready. Then, it autogenerates a percentage score for each product based on how many fields are filled out, so you can get a quick view of what’s missing.
Which attributes should I include?
The attributes you need may vary depending on where you’re selling and what you want to keep track of. You can create completeness attributes for different content types (like media or product specifications), for different markets, or for specific channels, like Shopify.
Can I create multiple completeness attributes?
Yes, you can create as many completeness attributes as you need. Many teams create unique ones for different channels, content types, internal teams, or languages (like “Spanish Content,” “Marketing Information,” or “Shopify Completeness”).
How do I find products with low completeness scores?
Add the completeness attribute to your Product Overview and use filters to find incomplete products. You can save the filtered view to return to it whenever you need to work on missing content.
Do completeness scores update automatically?
Yes, completeness scores update automatically as you add missing fields, so you can keep track of which products are ready when working on your content.
